Banja Bansko is a thermal spa located in the southeastern part of Macedonia, near the city of Strumica and the village of Bansko. Its healing springs are renowned for their therapeutic effects on various ailments, particularly rheumatic conditions.

History and Discovery
Banja Bansko is a Roman thermal bath that was used as a healing center in ancient times. It is situated about 12 km east of Strumica at the foot of Mount Belasica. The remains of the bath were discovered in 1978 during the construction of the “Zar Samuil” Hotel. Excavations revealed a complex covering 1,000 square meters, including ten rooms such as changing rooms, saunas, and pools with hot, cold, and lukewarm water.
The bath utilized the thermomineral springs of Parilo, located 50 meters south of the site. It is believed to date back to the 3rd century, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Caracalla (211–217 AD), who was known for constructing and renovating baths across the empire.
The Springs of Banja Bansko
There are five thermomineral springs, with only the largest, Parilo, being professionally developed. The other springs flow freely or feed the “Salandža” pool. The water temperature remains constant throughout the year, indicating that it originates from deep underground and is unaffected by atmospheric conditions.
- Main Spring (Parilo): 72 °C
- Salandža Spring: 56 °C

Geographic Location
Banja Bansko is located 12 km southeast of Strumica, at the eastern end of the village of Bansko. The complex is built on a gravel terrace at an elevation of 270 meters, offering stunning views of the Strumica Plain and the peaks of the Belasica Mountains.
